Inti Originals and quality

Did you know that in order to ensure great quality, Inti Originals has 3 quality checks? Here is how we make sure your product is of great quality...

1. Quality check by the CITE in Peru
The CITE is a coorporative organization in Catacaos that ensures the quality of all jewelry made by artists in the Catacaos artwork society. In the CITE engineers and artists work together to check both the silver quality and the technical work of the jewelry such as locks, chains, connections, etc.. All Inti Originals products go to the CITE quality check after which the CITE give the jewelry a silver batch to protect the jewelry against damage and chemicals. If you want to read more about the CITE check: http://www.citecatacaos.com/ (in English and Spanish).

2.Quality check by Inti Originals Peru
After the products have gone through the CITE check, Inti Originals checks the products against the product specifications such as weight, design, locks, length and other details to make sure the product corresponds exactly with the product the customer finds on the website. After this quality check the product is being sent to the Netherlands.

3. Silver check by Waarborg Holland
According to Dutch regulations it is mandatory to give all silver products that are being produced abroad a silver brand. The reason for this is that for a consumer it is very hard to define the quality of a silver product. Inti Originals complies to this regulation by sending all the jewelry that arrives to Holland, to Waarborg Holland in Gouda. Here the silver quality is being checked and a small silver stamp is being marked on the jewelry. All our products have a silver quality of at least 950.

We take quality very seriously, which is why we give one year guarantee on all our products. This means if something is wrong with your jewel, we will inmediatey change it for a new one so you never have to await repairs.

Recession proof dates

Do not take the recession as an excuse to stay in and do nothing. Here are a few recession proof dates you and your honey can do with an empty wallet!

Get on thin ice. Depending on the weather, head to an indoor or outdoor ice-skating rink — it's the perfect excuse to hold hands, "accidentally" fall on top of each other, and grab a cup of hot chocolate and cozy up to each other to keep warm.

Skip the pricey wine bar and grab a few beers at your local dive bar. Make sure you pick a place with a pool table or dartboard set up, and challenge him to a few games. Loser owes the winner a song on the jukebox.

He may hate to shop, but he'll end up thanking you if you drag him to a flea market. There's something for everyone and plenty of things you never knew existed — you might even discover he has a hobby or weird collection you didn't know about!

Settle in for a night of pampering: No pricey spa required. Use your empty wallets as an excuse to stay in — and up — all night. Run a bubble bath and then treat each other to full-body massages. Sleep in the next day.

Get an adrenaline rush at the roller-skating rink. As long as you don't mind being the oldest people there who aren't chaperoning their children, it's a great way to have fun and let loose with each other. Top it off with a bowl of ice cream when you get home.

Play house: Dress up in your most serious grownup outfit and leave your tiny apartment to visit some open houses. Spend the day arguing over where you would put the love seat, discussing the difference between eggshell and ecru paint, and giggling over strangers' hideous decorating choices.

Spice up your movie-night routine by finding a drive-in movie theater. Stop at the supermarket on your way to load up on your favorite snacks, and bring blankets and pillows to make the car extra cozy. Let him pick the movie — you'll get points for being easygoing, even though you know you'll probably miss most of the movie.

Show him your rugged side and build something together. Ask him to help you build something like a coffee table or dresser for your place — he'll be psyched that you asked him, just as long as you can bite your tongue when the table he puts together falls apart the moment you set your cup of coffee down.

Bowl him over at the bowling alley. Psych him out by reminding him of how many gross people wore his shoes before him, and don't forget to program his sugary-sweet nickname ("Muffin Face") onto the computerized scoreboard instead of his real name.

Ask him about his fantasy cars and he'll probably talk your ear off. Head over to a local car dealership and test-drive the most expensive car they'll let you take out of the parking lot. Take turns at the wheel but resist the urge to nitpick each other's driving skills.

Pisco Sour

We think it is unfair not to share Pisco Sour with you. For many ages this national drink of Peru has been enjoyed in Latin countries, but if you want a variation on your mojito or pina colada you should definately try this delicous cocktail. Not as famous in Europe yet, but at least as good...

For 2 Pisco Sours you need:
  • 1 cup of Pisco
  • The juice of 6 lemons (use the green lemons)
  • 2-3 spoons of sugar
  • 10 ice cubes
  • egg white of 1 egg
  • cinamon
Put the pisco in a blender, add 20 ml of lemon juice and the sugar. Add the ice cubes and blend it to a nice mix until the ice is crushed. Now take the egg and separate the eggwhite. Add this to the mix in the blender and blend for another 20 seconds until you get a big foam layer. Now put the Pisco Sours into small glasses and finish with a little bit of cinamon on top. Salud!

Expensive engagements

Often these larger than life personalities get a larger than life engagement ring:

Paris Hilton & Paris Latsis

Paris Hilton’s short-lived engagement was highlighted by the 24-carat emerald cut diamond ring. Latsis thought that when Hilton said "yes," she'd actually marry him and they'd stay together forever and ever. Well, that never happened, they didn't even make it to the planning stages of their wedding. But, thanks to the identically named duo, we had the privilege of being exposed to one of the most amazing rings of our time. The massive white diamond ring was picked out by Hilton herself, designed by a private jeweler and rumored to be at least 23-carats total weight. That's not all, aside from her engagement ring, Hilton also received a 21-carat canary diamond as an "I love you" ring. Oh, the perks of being engaged to a Greek shipping heir.

Anna Kournikova & Enrique Iglesias
Although neither an engagement nor marriage can be confirmed from either, the massive pink stone the Russian tennis star is sporting is worth mentioning. The ring is rumored to be an 11-carat natural pink pear shape diamond.

Milania & Donald Trump
The new Mrs. Trump wears a 12-carat classic emerald cut diamond, with channel set diamonds on each side. Although the ring was rumored to be around $2 million, it's speculated to be valued at a low $480,000. But, when you get married as often as The Donald, you have to cut costs somewhere.

Jennifer Lopez & Ben Affleck
Despite the eventual cancellation, Jennifer Lopez’s finger sparkled with a 6-carat radiant shaped pink diamond while she was engaged to Ben Affleck, a stone reported to cost more than $3 million.

- Elizabeth Taylor, when engaged to her third husband, Michael Todd, wore a nearly 30carat emerald cut diamond.
- Lady Diana Spencer wore an 18-carat deep blue oval sapphire circled by fourteen diamonds when she promised to become Princess Diana.
- Catherine Zeta-Jones’ nuptial promise to Michael Douglas was sealed with a 10-carat antique horizontal set marquise diamond.

Condor, Puma and Snake

In our collection you can find the new necklace named "Necklace Condor, Puma, Serpiente. This necklace is inspired on the most important Inca symbols from the so called Chakana, the Inca cross.

In the necklace you will see beads of the Inti (sun), the condor, puma and snake, with very detailed filigran art. The three symbols represent the three layers in the Inca life: the underworld (snake) stands for the physical, this world (puma) stands for mental and the higher spirit (condor)stand for spiritual. The middle of the cross is the sun which is the center of the universe, for the Inca's this was Cuzco. The Inca cross is based on the astrological Southern Cross, a star sign.

The history of silver...

One of the main reasons that Peru was such an important colony for the Spanish Crown was its incredible wealth. From the middle of the 16th century and all through the initial gold fever displayed by the "conquistadores" who looted the Andean temples and palaces, the discovery of rich silver deposits in Alto Peru (now Bolivia) and of mercury deposits in Huancavelica, used in the exploitation of silver, became the basis for the Peruvian virreinato's grandeur during the 16th and 17th centuries and for the domination of the capital of Lima over the other South American cities.

The history of silver in colonial Peru is anyhing but a happy one. Recruited by force and under the pretense of paying off taxes to the Spanish Crown in labor instead of in money, thousands of natives were forced to work in subhuman conditions in the mines. This resulted in a high mortality rate in the Central Andes and in the destruction of the rural economies, whose stronger citizens were sent to work in the mines with few people left in the villages to plant and tend to agriculture. However, life was very different for the Criollos (Peruvians of Spanish descent) and Spaniards. This precious metal passed through so many hands and intermediaries that the silver that finally arrived in Spain was much less than what came out of the mines.

It crossed the Andes on the backs of llamas and other animals which transported it towards the Pacific Ocean to the town of Arica, where it was loaded onto ships and sent to the port city of Lima, Callao, where it was weighed in customs and the corresponding taxes paid. Its long journey then continued on to Panama, where it was again transported across the isthmus on the back of beasts to the Caribbean for final loading onto the ships destined for Seville.

The opulence of Lima's elite and the abundance of the mineral led to the development of a sophisticated silversmith industry, which produced jewelry, utensils for the home and decorative objects for both Lima's homes and churches. In the 18th century, the Spanish Crown opened up international commerce to other South American ports and the silver route changed to Buenos Aires, which became the center for the new virreinato.

The Peruvian virreinato was fragmented into different circunscripciones which led to the decadence of Lima's ruling classes. Silver objects in the old capital increased in value and thanks to the scarcity of the mineral, forced the artisans to improve the quality of their products. This tradition has remained intact even after the War of Independence and continues today.

Today's modern Peruvian artisans continue to work the silver as if it were an old friend. They continue to fabricate jewelry for the elite, but also produce artwork for the average consumer with the same quality and artistry used by their colonial predeccesors.

How to maintain and clean silver jewelry

You have purchased a beautiful silver jewel from our collection and now you want to know how to keep it pretty? In this article you will find tips about how to maintain your Inti product.

Of course it is important you avoid the damage in the first place. This means you should not spray perfumes, hair spray, lotions, and similar items. Also make sure your jewels stay away from make-up, foods, and drink. If you do stain your jewelry with the above, rinse immediately with water and soap (mild, phosphate free preferably). Avoid strong chemicals, such as those found in hair coloring and dyes; these can tarnish silver instantly. Removing your jewelry when you bath or swim may or may not be necessary; we recommend you always take it off since it might damage the silver or stones.

To clean your jewelry you can use a soft polishing cloth. This helps remove any dirt or oils that may get on your jewelry through contact with skin and the environment. A soft non-abrasive cloth will work, or you can buy a special silver polishing cloth at a jewelry store. The frequency of such cleanings will vary with each person, but the hard and fast rule is to wipe the piece anytime you feel the shine is looking dull or before you store the piece away for an extended period.

If you don’t wear the jewelry it is important to stow it away carefully in the box you will get when you purchase your Inti product.

For a more thorough cleaning, detergents can be used. One method is to put a little bit of baking soda or other mild non-phosphate detergents on your jewelry, then wash with mineral free water by either rubbing with fingers or using a soft cloth. Take note, however, that the softer your stones are, the more delicate your soap should be. You can easily brush off dirt from harder diamonds and sapphires with a good solution of distilled water and cleaning powder.

There are also chemical cleaners available, but repeated use of liquid cleaners can result in discoloration overtime, therefore, such cleaners should only be used sparingly and only when other methods of cleaning fail.
